Thanks for visiting our website. We are a nonprofit literary organization based in Springfield, Illinois, home of our 16th U.S. president Abraham Lincoln. We are proud to have served central Illinois since 1993, inspiring and supporting the literary arts. Since 1999, our annual teen poetry anthology, Navigating the Maze, has reached teens, their families and friends, and others around the world.
SPW mourns the September 20 death of a friend and ally, SamBDavis, poet, photographer, filmmaker, artist and the designer of the SPW 25th Anniversary t-shirt graphic (see below). His memorial service and burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery took place on Monday, September 27. You're invited to honor his memory at a "Blind Wine SamB Davis Celebration of Life" on Thursday, October 14 at 6:15 PM at It's All About Wine, 1305 Wabash Avenue, Springfield 62704. Poetry in person! SPW Open Mics -- 2 PM @ Buzz Bomb Brewing Co.
Bring your corporeal body to the SPW Open Mic, 2 PM Sunday October 24 at Buzz Bomb Brewing Company, 406 East Adams in lyrical Downtown Springfield (62701). For those who want to read their own or favorite authors' works en plein air. Enjoy delicious locally brewed craft beers and interesting spoken word performances. Musical performers are welcome, too.
A future open mic is scheduled for 2 PM at Buzz Bomb on November 28.
